Senior Minister: Rev. Joseph W. Cunningham, Ph.D.
Joe has been the minister at Saginaw First Free Methodist since June 2013. He was raised in the Free Methodist Church, studied with the Roman Catholics in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to Manchester, England for doctoral work on John Wesley (the founder of Methodism) before making his way back to central Michigan, which is home. He teaches in the department of philosophy at Saginaw Valley State University, he's an assistant editor of Wesley and Methodist Studies, a journal published by the Manchester Wesley Research Centre (http://www.mwrc.ac.uk) and the Oxford Centre for Methodism and Church History, and he's passionate about preaching the Word and administering the sacraments. He and his wife Kathryn have three little ones (Josephine, Stanley, and Frederick).
Core Beliefs of the Free Methodist Fellowship
The whole of humanity is broken. Yet, through the faithfulness of Jesus, all human beings are restored and empowered to lead the life of holiness, as we respond to God's grace and love one another.
In the Free Methodist Church, anyone who hears and responds to the Lord's invitation to dine at his table is most welcome. At Saginaw First, we celebrate communion every first Sunday of the month.
Scripture represents the fullness of God's revealed truth to humankind, received and handed down throughout the centuries. It is unfailing in its purpose and central to the life of faith and discipleship.
